The town centre of Alghero is a treasure of inestimable value and attraction, unique in Sardinia for its features enriched by its historical past.
Alghero is been ruled by Doria, governors of Genoa , in 1102 A.D, even though other assumptions on their ruling have been placed.
Anyway it is certain that the Catalan Alghero was founded in 1354 AD.

It’s the only Catalan town in Sardinia, where Catalans’ influence survives not only in the local dialect and in the traditions of Alghero but especially in the so-called "gothic-Catalan" style of the architecture of its buildings, churches and bell-towers.
The same lines of architecture can be found in Cagliari, the main town in Sardinia. In both towns it is not difficult to find giant portals.
